Sometimes, nature creates a beautiful place, all on its own. This happens frequently in Kentucky and near Mammoth Cave in Park City, a picturesque trail has been created, thanks to a sink hole-created pond above the cave system. Sloan's Crossing Pond Trail is a short, but scenic, boardwalk trail that winds its way around a pond and is perfect to explore before summer ends.
Located near Mammoth Cave in Park City, this .4-mile trail is ideal for anyone wishing to connect with nature. It may be a short hike, but the diverse scenery and abundance of wildlife will entertain you the entire way.
The best thing about this particular trail is that it is accessible to all. A well-maintained boardwalk surrounds Sloan's Crossing Pond and it winds through woods and out to the edge of the water.
The pond was created from a sink hole above Mammoth Cave, so you know you're walking above something mysterious. The colorful, light-filled trail is a stark contrast to the dark caverns below.
Although we recommend checking out this trail before summer ends, it's really beautiful any time of year. Fall is especially lovely with brightly painted trees and a cool breeze in the forest.
The variety of wildlife you can see along the trail is also a unique feature. Frogs will provide a soundtrack for your hike and you're also likely to see snakes, turtles, a variety of birds and many other wildlife.
