The massive lakes and large parks throughout western Kentucky are well-known and many families enjoy spending time there. But there are also plenty of hidden gems that offer the same outdoor adventures, campsites, and even some unique attractions that are worth a visit. Lake Malone State Park is a lovely park and campground in Dunmor and has a little bit of everything. And if you're looking for a family-friendly activity in Kentucky, you'll want to plan a visit to check out the three, 14-foot-tall giants that have moved into this lakeside park and are patiently awaiting you along the trails and lakefront.
Lake Malone State Park has seen quite a bit of change over the past few years and it's now an even more exciting destination for those who love the outdoors. It's always had several amenities, but they've received a face lift, as well as three, friendly new (and big!) faces to greet you.
Known as the "Big Twigs," this family of friendly giants now calls Lake Malone home. You can see all three when you visit this imaginative attraction that's appealing to all ages.
Bobber Malone sits right on the lake, ready for his next big catch. Maybe he can teach your children to be patient - perhaps the most important skill needed when fishing.
Happy Malone hangs out at his very own campsite, making smores big enough to share. You can have a seat by his campfire and admire the art and craftsmanship that went into these creations.
Oakley Malone is the most active of the three and is ready for an adventure along the Laurel hiking trail. You'll want to hike this entire 2-mile trail and enjoy beautiful scenery around the lake.
If you visit these giants on a summer day, save time to play in the sand and cool off in the lake. If you want to extend your stay, book a site at the campground. It has 25 RV sites, as well as dozens of primitive ones.
And if Bobber inspired you to try fishing, head out on the water from the newer docks and try your luck. You can launch your own boat from the ramp or borrow a fishing pole and find a good spot along the banks of the lake.
As a family-friendly activity in Kentucky, a trip to a state park should top the list. We have so many wonderful options and Lake Malone is a true gem in the western part of our state. Go camping, fishing, boating, swimming, hiking, and now you can also visit these whimsical giants who call the park home. Have you been to Lake Malone State Park?
