Kentucky's no stranger to spectacular waterfalls, but did you know that the Bluegrass State is home to its very own double waterfall? Located in the wondrous Daniel Boone National Forest, Pine Island Double Falls is a beautiful blue waterfall that's not one, but two, crashing cobalt cascades. The falls meet in the middle and plummet into an aquamarine pool at the bottom. Pine Island Double Falls is an incredible sight to behold; a Kentucky bucket list must!
Pine Island Double Falls is a dramatic, dynamic duo of cascades located within Daniel Boone National Forest.
You'll access the falls via the eponymous Pine Island Double Falls Trail, a 1.4-mile trek that's marked with some of the features for which Kentucky is most known: gorges, canyons, caves, and, of course, waterfalls.
The trail winds through lush forests and past towering, carved-out rocks that line a scenic creek. You'll actually follow this creek for most of the hike.
While you're venturing to the show-stopping falls, don't forget to notice your surroundings, because this hike really is quite beautiful.
Because while expansive gorges and thunderous waterfalls are certainly awe-inspiring, some of Kentucky's most beautiful wonders are also the smallest and quietest.
The hike will go by quickly, and before you know it, you'll have arrived at the beautiful blue falls.
This amazing double waterfall is one of Kentucky's most glorious hidden gems.
Visit after a healthy rainfall, and the flow of the two cascades will be quite impressive.
While admittedly a more challenging trail, the end result is so worth the effort. Because if you time the hike right, you’ll be rewarded with two glorious waterfalls, deep in the Bluegrass wilds.
And because this isn't the most well-known trail *or* waterfall in Kentucky (especially when compared to some of the other falls in Daniel Boone Forest) the only sound you should hear when you've arrived at this waterfall is the ambient soundtrack of the cascades themselves.
