This unseasonably warm weather we've been having has probably made you start thinking about fun and unique day trips to take in the spring and summer. If you're looking for something active that people of all ages can have fun doing, then head to the Go Ape Treetop Adventure in Jefferson Memorial Forest in south Louisville.
Go Ape is located in Jefferson Memorial Forest, which is the largest municipal urban forest in the United States. The forest is in south Louisvile's Fairdale neighborhood.
The Go Ape course is right behind the Jefferson Memorial Forest Visitor Center, so it's easy to find. The Visitor Center is at 11311 Mitchell Hill Road #101.
The course will open for the season again on March 18, so you only have to wait a few more weeks before you can climb and swing through the treetops.
Scared of heights? Don't worry! The course is completely safe. You're strapped into to a harness, and the highest platform is only 40 feet tall. This just might be the perfect way to help you conquer your fear of heights!
The longest zip line is 300 feet, and is the most exhilarating part of the course.
In total, this treetop obstacle course has five different sections and 39 crossings. The course takes about 2-3 hours to complete.
The longest crossing is 66 feet, so you won't have too long in between sturdy platforms on which to take breaks before the next crossing.
Go Ape is a fun experience for adults and children alike. However, there is a minimum age requirement of 10 years, and anyone between the ages of 10-15 must be supervised by an adult. There is also a minimum height requirement of 4 feet 7 inches, and a maximum weight restriction of 285 pounds, though this is more flexible based on the fit of the harness.
Be sure you wear closed toe shoes and comfortable clothes suitable for a bit of physical activity.
If you're interested in participating in this Go Ape course once it opens for the 2017 season, visit their website to find out more about how to make a reservation.
