For a memorable day in nature, head to the Horse Thief Trail in Kanopolis State Park in Kansas. As a scenic hike that's just under two miles, you'll have the opportunity to check out a cave, wander along a river, walk through prairies, birdwatch, see wildflowers, and so much more. To reach Horse Thief Trail, take 1-70 West if you're coming from Kansas City. You can also take 1-135 North if you're coming from Witchita.
The trail goes through various terrains include prairies and wooded areas. The highest elevation on the trail is 141 feet.
Along with walking through fields, keep an eye out for wildflowers along the lake too.
Make sure to bring a flashlight and your curiosity when you check out the cave.
You can also enjoy the perfectly framed views from the cave.
Remember to bring your camera to take photos of the breathtaking views including the unique rock formations.
Upon reaching the summit, spend some time to hang out and take in the fresh air.
Since there's no shade along the trail, remember to bring a hat and wear sunblock. Be prepared with good hiking shoes and water too.
