Hey there Kansas hikers, are you ready to explore? Today's adventure leads us to the prairie, where we could listen to the wind for ages. When you're looking for a stunning hike that's the perfect length with plenty of views, you'll enjoy sightseeing on the hills of the Konza Prairie. It's beautiful out there!
Today's adventure embarks on the Konza Prairie, highlighting the beaty of the Godwin Hill Loop Trail.
Six miles of easy hiking can be popular at times, but generally isn't too busy. It's a great way to get some well needed fresh air and let your hair go in the breeze.
A trail guide at the beginning leads you well along this loop, with plenty of markings at key points. The best part is, every mile is filled with our beautiful and windy landscapes!
Much of the paths are limestone, gravel, dirt, or a mix of all three. It's an interesting landscape with a healthy elevation gain, so make sure you wear shoes you're comfortable climbing a bit in.
Hike over a small bridge, limestone rock paths, and in and out of trees as the wind blows around you and through anything it will fit between. It's a Kansas prairie, after all!
Wildlife spotting is important, because the Konza prairie is full of all sorts of unique plants and animals you can't always find elsewhere in our state. Keep an eye out for new things to add to your experience.
As with any Kansas trail, make sure to never leave anything behind. Even fruit peels can harm the natural flow of the ecosystem here, as they aren't native to the area.
We love our outdoors, and can't get enough of the beauty that lies in the Flint Hills, either. If you've never explored, you might also like an area called Cheyenne Bottoms, home of a stunning 77-mile scenic drive.
