Sometimes, you just need to get away from the busyness and stress of daily life. Santa Fe Lake, located in Augusta, is the perfect destination. This area not only offers excellent fishing and gorgeous views, but it has two incredible hikes: The Santa Fe Lake North Trail and the Santa Fe Lake South Trail. While both trails feature beautiful scenery and thick hardwood trees, the Santa Fe South Trail in Kansas is short, features a stunning waterfall, and offers some magical views.
The Santa Fe Lake South Trail is an out-and-back hike that is 1.7-miles. This trail is rated moderate as you do have some tough terrain you must climb.
As you hike, you’ll walk through many hardwood trees. Don’t be surprised if you fall in love with some of these lush, beautiful areas on the trail.
Be aware that there are some steep areas of this hiking trail in Kansas. Not only is there is a steep climb but some areas of the trail are rocky and rough. Beginner hikers may find these areas of the trail a little challenging.
As you explore the Santa Fe South Trail in Kansas, you will come across some enchanting views of Santa Fe Lake. Stop and enjoy the scenery — it truly is a remarkable sight.
Finally, you’ll come to the Santa Fe Lake Waterfall. During the rainy season, this waterfall is absolutely stunning. You’ll be grateful you made the climb on this hiking trail.
Give yourself plenty of time to cool off and relax near the falls. There are rocks to climb and terrain to explore in this area as well.
There is a small fee to access the Santa Fe Lake area. Also, be aware that in poor weather conditions, the Santa Fe Lake North Trail and South Trail may be closed.
