Kansas isn’t known for having many spectacular waterfalls and large swimming holes, but the ones that are scattered across the Sunflower State are certainly worth exploring. Pillsbury Crossing, located near Manhattan, is one waterfall wading pool that you will want to place high on your bucket list. Not only are the sights beautiful, but the hike around the falls is short and the views are absolutely spectacular.
Pillsbury Crossing is not your typical waterfall wading pool in Kansas.
Pillsbury Crossing begins at Deep Creek. It is a flat-rock crossing made of natural limestone that provided safe passage for pioneers and their wagons in the 1800s. The crossing was named after pioneer J.H. Pillsbury.
Today, Pillsbury Crossing still provides safe passage across the creek. When the water levels are low, you can drive directly over the flat rock.
However, the best way to explore Pillsbury Crossing and the surrounding area is on foot. The hike around Pillsbury Crossing is only 0.4-miles. It is an out-and-back trail that is rated easy.
The trail will take you along Deep Creek. If you love to fish, this is a great place to throw in a line as there are often catfish, carp, bass, and other species in this water channel.
You’ll also see many wildflowers and bird species as you trek.
This short hiking trail in Kansas is also where you will find many amenities, such as picnic tables. These amenities will make your trip to the beautiful Pillsbury Crossing more memorable and convenient.

The trail can provide some much-needed peace and quiet. During the summer months, the waterfall and wading pool areas can become quite busy. You may also see an increase in vehicles driving across the historic crossing.
However, don’t let the crowds keep you away from this unforgettable, beautiful, and spectacular waterfall wading pool in Kansas.
