There are so many amazing state parks in Kansas that it's nearly impossible to pick just one favorite. Each of these protected sites boasts incredible landscapes, a rich history, and a multitude of recreational opportunities that make them all worthy of exploration. One of the best state parks in western Kansas is undoubtedly Lake Scott State Park in Scott County, KS. This place truly has it all, and it's got one of the most fascinating histories of any park in the Sunflower State. The western half of Kansas is so underrated - admittedly, it's far from the bustling metropolises you'll find in the east, but it's a stunning area where life goes a little slower than it does in Overland Park or Wichita. Next time you find yourself in this lovely region, pay a visit to Lake Scott State Park!
Lake Scott State Park has been recognized by National Geographic as one of the country's must-see state parks. This is a beautiful area with a unique landscape.
The 100-acre Scott State Fishing Lake is perfect for fishing, boating, or simply relaxing by the shore.
You'll also find plenty of trails here, suitable for all skill levels.
This area of the state has canyons that are a striking contrast to the stereotype of "flat as a pancake" terrain that Kansas is famous for.
This is also a notable place for its history. The park is on the site of El Cuartelejo, a National Historic Landmark that holds the remains of the northernmost-known Native American pueblo.
Some of the remains of the pueblo are on display within the park.
Whether you want to learn more about Kansas history, spend time on the water, or enjoy the park's recreational opportunities, Lake Scott State Park is an amazing park worthy of a visit.
