Food festivals in Kansas couldn't bring more happiness, because who doesn't like food, along with live music and entertainment? Kansas is known for its sunflowers and open prairies, but did you know that it is also famous for its spinach? Dating back to the early 1900s, spinach has grown particularly well in the Prarie State's soil and is a vital part of its history. In fact, the city of Lenexa, located on the eastern side of the Sunflower State, is known as the Spinach Capital of the World. To celebrate this important piece of history, this gorgeous Kansas city hosts the biggest spinach festival around on Saturday, Sept. 7, 2024, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Sar-ko-Par Trails Park. Let's take a look at one of the best Kansas festivals!
Welcome to the annual Lenexa Spinach Festival, a one-day day event you will not want to miss!
You never know who you might meet at this fun celebration, like Popeye the Sailor Man and his girlfriend, Olive Oyl.
This festival began in 1982 by the Lenexa Historical Society and was originally created to promote local artists and their creations.
Over time, the society involved spinach and the theme stuck. Today, thousands of individuals come to Lenexa to celebrate.
A long list of activities is planned at this one-day event so you’ll want to arrive early to ensure you don’t miss a thing.
Give yourself plenty of time to browse the many arts and crafts vendors at this festival in Kansas.
Sit back and enjoy the live music and entertainment that are scheduled throughout the day.
You’ll never find a boring moment at this spinach festival in Kansas.
Bring the entire family along but don’t be surprised when your children will not want to leave.
The fun activities for children include paddle boats, face painting, and fishing.
And if you're a culinary wizard, show your talent in the Spinach Recipe Contest when judges will award cash prizes for the tastiest spinach treats in four categories: appetizer, salad, entrée, and dessert.
And of course, you must stay and take a bite of the world’s largest spinach salad.
You will also find spinach cooking demonstrations throughout the day as well.
And don't worry - if you're not a fan of spinach - plenty of delicious offerings abound.
One of our favorite parts of the event is learning about the area's history.
Free satellite parking is available at Lenexa Place Business Park at the southeast corner of 95th Street and Lackman Road. Free shuttles run from this lot approximately every 10 minutes from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. We hope to see you at the Lenexa Spinach Festival!
