Summer is gradually coming to an end, so it's not surprising that waterfront trips are going to be more popular now that the sun isn't trying to roast us. In addition to lakes, there's also a great riverside restaurant and a water park to send your summer off with a bang! Who's ready to dive in?
1. Big Hill Lake - Cherryvale
This lake in particular is one of my favorites for the classic "weekend camping trip" where you swim, make a fire, and just generally enjoy sleeping outdoors. In addition to those, there's plenty of space to hike or boat, if you're equipped for that as well. What more could you want for summer fun?

2. Chuck 'n' Hank's - 102 E Atchison St. in Atchison
I can't tell you enough just how delicious this eatery is. They've got everything from tacos, to home-smoked brisket, to a literal bucket of ribs. They've also got frog legs for those of us who eat an occasional amphibian from time to time. Enjoy the riverfront views from your table outside, or eat inside away from the flies. It's up to you!

3. Butler State Fishing Lake - Latham
This lake is one of my favorites for (you guessed it) fishing! Plus, the sunsets are absolutely perfect for evening picnics.
4. Glen Elder State Park - Glen Elder
Nothing says childhood like building a sand castle, but Kansas doesn't have any oceans, so we make do with sandy lakes. This one is the best for building sand sculptures and castles, in my opinion. At least you don't have to worry about the tide taking it away!

5. Elk City Lake - Elk City
Elk City Lake is a stunning example of how beautiful our lakeside sunsets can be. Sunset picnics and swims are paired perfectly with awesome views of the sky.
6. Long Beach Lagoon - 111 N 4th Ave. in Dodge City
This little park is hidden snugly in Dodge City, where most tourists only make it to Boot Hill and other historic areas. However, this waterpark is a great place to enjoy the water this summer without any "dirt" or snakes to bother you.

7. Parsons Lake - Parsons
Though this lake isn't as popular as some of our larger lakes, it makes up for it in character. There's gorgeous sunset reflections, plenty of place to camp out for the night, and enjoy a reflected sunrise in the morning.
