Busy day? Sometimes you just need to find a good place to get away from it all. There are plenty of "regular" spots to hang out at, but these hidden oases are my personal favorite, because I've never run into anyone at any of my visits. Why not give them a try? Getting closer to nature, breathing some fresh air, and spending some time alone might be just what we all need.
1. Alcove Springs
Pioneers on the Oregon Trail used to stop near here, and so can you! It's pretty lonely most days, and the water is simply relaxing to sit down and listen to.
2. Chase County Fishing Lake
Every once in a while, there's a stretch of beach that doesn't get visited, and the waters are calm and reflective.
3. Arikaree Breaks
Arikaree Breaks is a great area around Cheyenne that just flows over the ground with quiet beauty.
4. Lawrence Wetlands
Once you leave the busy college town, there's an entire area surrounding it that's full of natural beauty without all those pesky people hanging around.
5. Edgerton City Lake Falls
Also known as the Santa Fe Lake Falls, this spot is a little-known location for another calming Kansas waterfall. There's never enough calming waterfalls, is there?
6. Mushroom Rock State Park
Ellsworth is already a pretty quiet place, respectively, but this spot is sort of a lonely tourist attraction that doesn't get much love from the masses, making it perfect for secluded outings.
7. Kansas Sunsets (anywhere)
There's nothing more relaxing than driving out to where no one can bother you, and just enjoying a sunset (and maybe the stars too!). Keep the city lights away, and you'll find even more to look at in your local night sky.
Here are some more hidden places only locals (and you, readers) might know about.
