We love our state parks, but one in particular really stands out when it comes to color and things to do. This gorgeous, colorful state park in Kansas is perfect no matter what time of year you'd like to visit. As long as it's not too muddy out, you'll have a grand time. Come check out this gorgeous park!
Welcome to Kanopolis Lake State Park, a beautiful place in Kansas that's full of everything you'd want in a chunk of Kansas countryside.
Much of the park is rough rock outcroppings and trails, which is great for anyone who loves to explore.
Those rocks though, are arguably the most stunning part about the whole state park. Red-orange sandstone makes up most of it, giving most of these outcroppings a bright color that stands out against the sky, the grass, and especially snow.
Some of the best things to do at this state park are fishing and boating on their 3,500 acre lake, hiking their 30 miles of trails, or watching native wildlife and wildflowers make this place their home.
Among the trails, there are caves you can sit in and explore with your hands, feeling the smooth almost softness of the stone in many areas. Wind and water doesn't have to work very hard to wear it down, since it's sandstone, almost like tougher chalk. It's so soft, that you can actually carve into it, though they ask that you leave it be.
I can see why this was made the first state park in Kansas, because it's absolutely breathtaking from every angle.
No matter your reason for visiting, you'll want to come back again and again, until you've explored every inch.
