First of all, Kansas is full of natural, breathtaking beauty. Secondly, once you're in love with Kansas' natural beauty, you'll find it absolutely everywhere! This breathtaking natural park in the middle of Wichita's metal and concrete makes for a gorgeous scene you wouldn't expect in the city. Rather than walk around a sidewalk next to a street, how about this?
Chisholm Creek Park and the connected Great Plains Nature Center is a gorgeous natural Kansas expedition just waiting to happen.
From inside, the free museum and gift shop overlooks the 240-acre park surrounding the building. Most noteworthy is the wildlife that can often be seen right near the glass. As a result, this is a really popular spot for frequent visitors to watch.
Visitors to the museum can learn about Kansas' natural wildlife, as well as interact with some of our native animals. School tours often come through, giving students an extra look into our habitats and the creatures within. Who wants to hold a turtle? I know I do!
In addition to having many trails throughout the park, over two miles of them are wheelchair-accessible, making this one of the best parks in town. Wildflowers of many types native to Kansas are in bloom all the time, too. I hope you like butterflies!
The park is open from dawn until dusk during appropriate seasons, and if you catch it early enough, you can spot deer grazing pretty close to paths and other open areas. Seems like you can get some great shots of the local wildlife, since they're so friendly!
Finally, every evening you visit the park, enjoy a beautiful sunset over natural Kansas tallgrass before you leave. What could be more perfect?
All of this breathtaking beauty and more can be found at 6232 E 29th St N in Wichita, Kansas.
