Kansas summer is fully here, and if you haven't taken a day out on a lake yet, what's stopping you? Sure, some of our beautiful lakes are having troubles with toxic algae right now, but these are clean, and ready for summer fun. Why not take the day off and visit one of these 7 swimming spots with the family?
7. Crawford Lake
This gorgeous lake has a lot to offer when you take it all in. You can swim, boat, and fish, all at this wonderful location. Plus, it's always nice to camp somewhere you know will be available for swimming all day. What more could you want?
6. Big Hill Lake
This is a favorite spot of mine, located at this gorgeous lake near Cherryvale. It has a playground, showers, and a great swimming area that isn't too deep, which is great for kids and those (like me) who want to keep their feet on the ground. However, you can also be more adventurous, and take a dip in the water if you bring your boat out with you.
5. Elk City Lake
In addition to these other lakes, this one in particular is a real beauty at sunset. You can enjoy the sandy swimming beach all day, followed by a night enjoying the calm waters and one of Kansas' great sunsets. On top of that, the state park side of things will make you feel like you're in another world.
4. Lovewell Lake
This lake in another of Kansas' state parks is a stunning example of swimming somewhere natural, instead of the city pool. In addition to a great swimming area, they also serve meals from April through September that are always worth what you pay for.
3. Kill Creek Park
The swimming beach at Kill Creek Park is a great addition to any park-related outings. In addition to providing with some fantastic scenery, you can also expect the water to be clear and not as densely populated as many of our other lakes.
2. Parsons Lake
In Parsons, there's a great little lake that's perfect for your swimming needs, especially if you're looking to escape the crowds you find at our more popular lakes. However, the spot in the evening is especially nice for fighting off the day's heat after a picnic.
1. Prairie Lake
In Holton sits this little lake that's a real treat for getting away from it all. Aside from some locals, it's not often that you run into a crowd, unless there's a birthday party or a bonfire. There's plenty of little nooks where you can take a quick dip, provided you don't see anyone fishing nearby.
In addition to these, do you know of any other great little swimming spots in Kansas?
