We have several inclusive playgrounds in Kansas, and if national trends are any indication, hopefully, there will be even more constructed within the coming years. If you're not familiar with the concept of an inclusive playground, it's a playground designed to accommodate all kids. Spaces are wide enough for wheelchairs to fit through, and there are typically areas for those with sensory processing difficulties. Inclusive playgrounds are so important because they allow all kids to play together, regardless of diagnosis or disability. The Field of Dreams at Wyandotte County Park is an inclusive playground in Bonner Springs, KS that makes that goal a reality.
Don't be confused by the name - this is not the same park as Wyandotte County Lake Park in nearby Kansas City. That park is about 6.5 miles north of this one.
This park has plenty of amenities, though. There's a skate area, several sports fields, and tennis courts, plus the Wyandotte County Museum.
It's also home to the Field of Dreams, a baseball-themed inclusive playground that's so much fun for all kids.
Here's an artist's rendering of the playground that shows off the fun theme.
There's even a ticket board!
The entire area is fenced, so it's safe for kids to run and play at their leisure. This is such a great inclusive playground near Kansas City, Kansas!
