There are so many great trails in Kansas that it can be difficult to pick just one to explore on a free day. We've got so many gorgeous natural surroundings, and there are so many types of hikes to choose from! One that's on the longer side but is just perfect for experienced hikers in Kansas looking for their next challenge is the Wyandotte County Lake Loop Trail.
This trail is long: at just under 10 miles, it'll take most hikers a little over four hours to complete on foot. The elevation gain is just over 1,200 feet, making it a moderately difficult hike.
It's also popular for mountain biking and horseback riding.
While that longer distance may scare off some novice hikers, don't be afraid! You certainly don't have to traverse the entire loop and there's nothing wrong with starting small.
The terrain on this hike is ever-changing. You'll head through all sorts of scenery and get the opportunity to check out woods, fields, rocky areas, and streams.
Plus, you'll get to see some lovely views of the Wyandotte County Lake, a beautiful 400-acre body of water that is the centerpiece of the park.
You'll want to be careful, as parts of the trail get pretty muddy after a good rain.
The hills here might be a shock to those who think of Kansas as nothing but flat land!
All in all, this is a great trail that shows off so much of the state's diverse beauty.
The Wyandotte County Lake Trail can be found at the lovely Wyandotte County Lake Park in Kansas City. Have you ever hiked this trail or even a small portion of it? Share your experiences in the comments!
