There are not a lot of covered bridges in Kansas still hanging around, especially when many of the best ones have fallen over the years or have even been removed. With that in mind, we're going to enjoy the few we have, especially during the beautiful fall months that Kansas lets us enjoy. Come see these covered bridges surrounded by great views!
1. Sedgwick County Park - Wichita
Sedgwick County Park is an often overlooked area of Kansas that has plenty of space for kite flying as well as other activities. Its little covered bridge looks great in the fall months, and is perfect for a stroll through the cool air.
2. Lake Shawnee - Topeka
Next up is a covered bridge hiding out near Lake Shawnee, at the Ted Ensley Gardens. It's 60 feet long, and hangs over a stream with gently flowing water. It's very peaceful, especially for a more suburban setting.
3. Prairie Sunset Trail - Goddard
Our next covered bridge is hiding out along the Prairie Sunset Trail, perfect for hiking or biking your way through the scenery. It runs from Goddard to Garden Plain, if you've got the time to travel the 12 miles! This one's worth every step.
4. Sedgwick County Zoo - Wichita
Our final covered bridge makes its home at the Sedgwick County Zoo, hiding just behind the flamingos right near the entrance. This one also leads to the petting zoo area, but don't forget to get distracted by the fish first.
If you find it more fun to enjoy the longest hiking trail in Kansas instead of many different areas, check out some of the best historic stops along the way!
