One neat thing about Iowa is that we love to tell our state's stories, even in our restaurants. We're proud of our industrial past and our farming industry history, and we aren't afraid to show it off! One place where you can experience Iowa's history, scenery, and culinary traditions all at once is the Iowa River Power Restaurant, just north of Iowa City in Coralville.
In the early 1900s, the Coralville Generating Plant was a big source of power for nearby Iowa City.
The plant was decommissioned in the late 1960s, and in 1977 Iowa River Power Company restaurant opened in the historic, renovated power plant.
Though it has changed hands a few times over the years, the Iowa River Power Restaurant has remained one of the best destination restaurants in eastern Iowa.
People travel for miles to enjoy delicious, freshly prepared food while they take in panoramic views of the pretty Iowa river.
The restaurant is located along the Iowa River Trail and across from acres of scenic green space.
The food is just as good as the view!
Surf-and-turf fare is served with fresh and healthy sides that keep Iowans coming back for more, year after year.
The homemade desserts are a huge draw, too - you can never decide which ones to try!
When you pair a breathtaking view, impressive history, and memorable food, you create an enchanting experience that one won't soon forget.
Personally, I love historic restaurants! They add so much to the experience of dining out with friends or family. Have you been to any other Amazing Restaurants In Iowa That Are Loaded With Local History? Which one are your favorites?
