If you’re looking for a fun and peaceful getaway from big-city life, take a trip to the Harman Reserve Nature Center. Hidden away in Iowa’s Cedar Falls’ forested land, the Hartman Reserve is a beautiful sanctuary where you can take a nice hike and enjoy exhibits at the Center.
Hartman has a lovely history. In 1938, John C. Hartman helped the YMCA buy 56 acres of land, and he wrote, “The closer the young are kept to nature, the better and happier men and women they will become.”
The true passion for the natural world is palpable in the Nature Center’s activities.
If you’re looking for an endlessly relaxing way to exercise, Yoga in the Park is available on a regular basis.
Traveling with the little ones? They’ll love the Nesting Naturalists event, where they’ll get to experience a naturalist’s story time followed by a fun craft and outdoor activity.
You can even learn how to make maple syrup at the Sugar Shack Tour! If you’re there in March, make sure you make reservations for the Maple Syrup Festival for plenty of sweet treats. Then head out for a hike in the woods- you never know what majestic animals you might run into!
Heading to Hartman in the fall? You’ll be thrilled by the gorgeous foliage all over the forest. Take a walk to the water to see the stunning leaves changing color before your eyes.
Plan for the winter if you’re looking for a true wonderland. The snowshoe hike is an amazing trek through the snow-covered trails in the forest that is quiet in the way it only can be at that time of year.
