In a state like Iowa full of county parks and county park lakes and county park lake beaches, Briggs Woods Park in Hamilton County still stands out from the rest. That's a bold claim, considering how impressive Iowa's county parks are, but give us a chance to explain.
It's a county park - but it's actually Iowa's oldest county park. It was donated to Hamilton County in 1919 by the Briggs family.
It's got a lake - a beautiful, 70-acre lake. Briggs Woods Lake offers options for fishing, boating, camping, and swimming.
It's got a beach - a sunny, sandy beach perfect for a day of fun with family and friends. Bring a picnic, bring a sun hat, bring the towels and floats and beach toys.
And on top of all that, Briggs Woods Park even boasts its own waterfall just a hop, skip, and a jump from the lake! In fact, it's not just one falls, but a series of them tumbling their way down the Boone River.
In fact, some visitors skip the lake beach altogether and just wade right into the pools above and below this series of beautiful cascades.
To reach the Briggs Woods Park beach, enter the park off Briggs Woods Road or off 250 Street. You'll see the beach just as you approach the lake. To access the waterfalls, head to the other side of the lake, to a parking lot near the spillway.
