In early spring, Indiana turns into a whimsical wonderland, full of bright and colorful spring wildflowers. Wildflowers can be found throughout the Hoosier state, but there is actually a springtime wildflower hike in Brown County that offers an incredible experience through some of Indiana's most gorgeous and vibrant wildflowers.
Brown County State Park is one of the most popular parks in Indiana. Filled with gorgeous hiking trails, stunning campgrounds and cabins, and incredible outdoor activities, this beloved park has been heralded as one of the most beautiful examples of nature in the Hoosier State. While you've likely heard many incredible stories about this scenic park, you probably didn't know that they have an incredible wildflower trail to explore.
This charming state park is bursting with springtime beauty and has wildflowers nearly everywhere you look, including across their 12 different hiking trails. However, you can see the best of this park's springtime wildflowers by trekking along the Taylor Ridge Trail (Trail 9) in this park.
The Taylor Ridge Trail is just under 3 miles. It takes you along the park's ridge top, offering you some of the most scenic views of the park's natural beauty, including their breathtaking wildflowers.
It connects to the Ogle Lake Trail, another great spot for finding wildflowers, and drops into a valley and around one of the park's streams.
The most common examples of wildflowers that you'll find along the trail include wild geraniums, bloodroot, ferns, and addler's tongue, though there are numerous other species growing throughout the park.
There are a total of 20 different types of wildflowers that have been identified throughout the park that, which can be found throughout the park's 12 different trails.
Wildflowers generally start popping up in mid-April in this park. However, some have spotted as early as late March.
Brown County State Park also offers a Spring Wildflower Foray every year, where visitors can embark on a guided hike to view some of the park's best examples of wildflowers. This year's foray takes place on April 28th, though you can visit before this date to experience the wildflowers on your own self-guided tour.
