Potawatomi Zoo in South Bend, Indiana may not be the most popular zoo in the state but it is certainly the oldest. Its roots go back to 1902 when it was just a duck pond in Leeper Park.
When this underrated zoo first opened, it was called the South Bend Zoo.
Like any good zoo, there are a wealth of attractions to enjoy. It is very easy to make a full day of fun out of this single attraction.
Guests enjoy the zoo train, an endangered species carousel, farm animal feedings, and more. There are also food vendors throughout selling everything from ice cream and snacks to hot dogs and pizza.
Enjoy the area a little longer with a visit to nearby Potawatomi Park where you'll find this excellent zoo-themed splash pad. A community pool, a nature conservatory, and a large performance pavilion can also be found there.
Of course, it is impossible to visit any zoo and not see animals. You'll be absolutely blown away by the variety of species as well as by how up close and personal you can get to them.
