Indiana is a state where hiking year-round is usually no problem, even when it's snowy and cold. The Hoosier State is beautiful, with so many trails and routes to choose from and plenty of opportunities for amazing photos or selfies within nature's beauty. Let's take a look at one of Indiana's lesser-appreciated trails; it's one you don't find on "best of" lists very often, but that's okay. It's gorgeous anyway, and we really love it. The Sycamore Loop Trail in Indiana is simply wonderful, and we feel you'll fall in love with it as we have, no matter when you plan your visit.
Sycamore Loop is comfortably nestled within the Charles C. Deam Wilderness, and you get a real taste of peace and quiet out here.
It's a 6.4-mile loop, though some hikers have noted that their pedometers measured it at seven miles.
Either-or, you can choose to hike the entire loop, or take it in segments. No matter which way you choose to slice it, this cake is a sweet one with some beautiful sights to see and natural wonders to admire.
Along your trek, you'll encounter some pools and small falls here and there.
If you visit during the warm months, we strongly recommend coming prepared with bug spray, as this densely-forested and often-moist area tends to attract breeding mosquitoes. Can't let them ruin our adventure, now, can we?
Other rewards of this stunning hike include some truly stunning views, especially during summer when everything is lush and green and autumn when the colors are in mid-transition.
Temperatures here are mostly pleasant, with the exceptions of some warmer, more humid days in summer and cold, icy days in winter. Make sure to come prepared for whatever season your hike takes place in!
Some days are busier than others, the busiest of which are weekends.
We recommend planning a trip in the middle of the week, when there are much fewer folks out on the trail. You'll appreciate the peace and quiet of a perfectly-timed trip, that's for sure.
Other activities this trail is known for include bird watching, wildlife spotting, and leaf-peeping.
It's a wonder-filled foray into Indiana's beautiful back country that is sure to be loved by most who hike it - though you may want to make sure you don't visit following a major rain, because the trail may become muddy and rugged during particularly wet weather.
Sycamore Trail in Indiana is a little slice of perfect paradise nestled in our stunningly peaceful woods just waiting to be explored.
