Many people think of Indiana as a drive-through state or as a place where there are tons of farms and not much else. Hoosiers, of course, know there is plenty more to the great Indiana outdoors than this. If you're looking for the ultimate bucket list of fun to have outdoors while the weather is amazing, read on:
1. Pine Lake - Berne
This amazing lake is open until Labor Day, so be sure to spend a weekend exploring all the fun this secret spot has to offer.
2. Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore - Chesterton
No bucket list of Indiana would be complete without including the Dunes. If you've never visited, you'll want to explore the main park here, the National Lakeshore in Chesterton. With camping, trails, beaches, swimming, boating, fishing, and so much more, you'll fall in love with this gorgeous landscape.
3. Marengo Cave - Marengo
This stunning U.S. National Landmark is one of the most incredible caves you'll ever visit. This cave offers two major walking tours, as well as a two hour exploration tour (must be booked in advance). You can also enjoy nearby camping and canoeing!
4. Kesling Wetland - Albion
If beauty is what you're seeking, look no further than the Kesling Wetland. This stunning landscape is part of the Merry Lea Environmental Center's preservation project and is a part of Goshen College.
5. Hoosier National Forest - Bedford
This gorgeous forest is accurately named after its home state. Go explore its over 200,000 acres of land, enjoy hiking or camping, or rent a cabin for a peaceful retreat from it all.
6. Fort Wayne Children's Zoo - Fort Wayne
One of the top zoos in the state is the Fort Wayne Children's Zoo where you get the best of both animal life and nature. If you love the outdoors as well as animals, this is the perfect place for you!
7. Pokagon State Park - Angola
If exploring is what you're after, this is one of the best parks to walk around. If the weather is nice, be sure to take advantage of the stunning Lake James, as well.
8. Cataract Falls - Owen County
If you want to see the state's largest waterfall (by volume), this place is a must visit. With a gorgeous upper and lower fall, you'll enjoy watching the water flow freely and even be amazed by its frozen beauty in the winter months.
9. Brown County State Park - Nashville
This state park is a local favorite and for good reason. This park will let you camp, fish, swim, hike, bike, horseback ride, and so much more! Plus, Brown County is arguably one of the most amazing landscapes in the entire state.
10. Clifty Falls State Park - Madison
This fantastic state park is tucked away in the southern town of Madison. Here, you'll get amazing views of the Ohio River, as well as hiking, scenic waterfalls, camping, and much more!
