Beanblossom Bottoms Nature Preserve in southern Indiana is a 598-acre wetland in Monroe County. Though marshy, it has been fitted with two miles of well-kept boardwalks and gravel paths that guide guests through this beautiful place.
Especially on a hot summer day, you'll feel like you're on a tropical hike through the brush of this wild nature preserve. This lovely attraction has been a sanctuary for these wetlands since 1995.
As you enjoy your hike along the trail, you'll come across many natural attractions. In addition to trees and bushes, you may find Midwest native orchids.
Indiana is actually home to more orchids than Hawaii. There are only three species that are indigenous to that state while Indiana is home to 42.
Look closely to find these little tropical flowers throughout this two-mile boardwalk trail. You may find that these Midwest native orchids are better than anything in Hawaii.
The trail at this wonderful nature preserve takes hikers past Beanblossom Creek, swampy marshes, forested patches, and other bio-diverse areas. This is an excellent place to bring the kids and the trail is very accessible.
In addition to preserving orchids, Beanblossom Bottoms is dedicated to protecting the endangered Indiana bat as well as Kirkland's snake.
