If you're anything like us, you're a big fan of hikes and hiking. This usually means that we search for trails of varying difficulty, from short-and-sweet to long-and-strenuous, there is absolutely no shortage at all of great hiking trails throughout the Hoosier State. Amazingly, there are more than 4,200 miles of trails from which to choose; many of them are brief and simple, but what about the ones that tend to get a little less love, like the ultra-long ones? Today, we're going to look at some of the best long hikes in Indiana that span for 25 miles or more. Take a weekend, or a week (or even longer), and conquer these long trails as soon as you're able to!
1. Tecumseh Trail
Tecumseh Trail is a beautiful escape from real life filled with lush forestry and stunning lake views. It's a 41 mile long point-to-point trail, and it's best from March through October. Make sure to take a look at all the amazing photos on the AllTrails page.
2. Monon Rail Trail
The Monon Rail Trail is an oft-forgetten long-trek trail that goes right through the heart of Indianapolis. It's an impressive 26 miles long, paved, and rated as pretty doable for all ages. 3. Cardinal Greenway & Whitewater Ridge Trail
Cardinal Greenway & Whitewater Gorge Trail is an easy, but lengthy, hike, coming in at an impressive 52 miles long. The paved pathway is great for hiking, walking, and biking. 4. The Visionary Trail
This trail takes the crown for the longest one on this list, coming in at an incredible 140 miles in length. It's a little-known extension of the Knobstone Trail, which we'll cover next. The Visionary Trail is not for the faint of heart, though, and there are truly no rules: you can hike as much or little as you darned-well please! 5. Knobstone Trail
As promised, the legendary Knobstone Trail earns a place on this list of long-haul Indiana hikes at 47 miles long. This one is the longest continuous footpath in Indiana, and it runs from Dream Lake Trailhead to Delaney Park Trailhead. It's got the same lake views as The Visionary Trail, albeit in a much shorter (if you could really call it that) package. Visit AllTrails for more details and user photos!
6. Blackwell Trail
The Blackwell Trail, otherwise known as the Blackwell to Terrill Ridge Trail, is a 27-mile-long loop trail with great opportunities to spot wildlife and wildflowers. 7. Pine to North Tower Trail
Okay, so that's a super-shortened version of the full name of this trail, which is - deep breath - Pine, Green Valley, Hesitation Point, Walnut, Lime Kiln, Aynes, North Tower Trail. Whew! It's a mouthful AND a hikeful, coming in at 26 miles in length. It's a loop trail, so you'll end up back where you started... eventually.
