Fun fact: Indiana is an excellent state for fishing. I know: everyone's obsessed with all the amazing lakes in Indiana, but within those lakes is a vast array of fish commonly sought after by Hoosiers and tourists alike. So, where does one find the best fishing in Indiana? Believe it or not, you won't find it in a lake or a pond; instead, the best fishing in the state can be found within Trail Creek, where the single largest fish ever caught in Indiana was... well, caught.
Welcome to Trail Creek, one of the most beautiful places in Indiana.
Trail Creek is so much more than "just" a creek. It's one of the very few bodies of water in Indiana whose water is cold enough for salmon to thrive in, as well as coldwater trout.
In fact, the largest fish caught in Indiana was a chinook salmon weighing in at an impressive 38 pounds.
That's enough to feed a whole family!
Trail Creek is popular among lovers of the outdoors, but nationally, it's a truly underrated wonder.
I would argue that this creek has some of the best fishing not just in Indiana, but in the entirety of the Midwest. This is one of those amazing spots you'll want to keep to yourself forever.
The locals already know, though: this is some of the best fishing there is.
Few things are as connecting to nature as going out into it, catching your own meals, and enjoying them. And to learn that there's a population of salmon in Indiana? Even better! People pay good money for salmon at local restaurants, so why not go straight to the source?
You can choose to go it alone (or with a friend), or you can go about getting a fishing guide to maximize the productivity - and pleasures - of fishing.
Among the fish most commonly caught are steelhead trout, common carp, freshwater drum, coho salmon, chinook salmon, and more. Yum.
No matter what, though, you're in for a treat: it's not every day you get to enjoy the best fishing in the entire region...
...unless, of course, you live nearby. Lucky!
Of course, there are limits as to the size(s) of the fish you're able to keep (and how many), so be sure to check out the most up-to-date information on the Trail Creek Watershed Partnership website.
