Indiana is not really known for its beaches and bodies of water. In fact, there are a lot of people who assume all of the lakes in Indiana are man-made. While there are definitely some man-made lakes in Indiana (and they are beautiful!), we are home to a lot of natural lakes too. Here are nine beautiful lakes you really should make plans to see in person.
1) Tippecanoe Lake
This large lake is found in the northern portion of Indiana in Kosciusko County.
2) Lake Freeman
Technically, this is a reservoir, but you can find it in Monticello, Indiana. It sits right next to its sister lake, Lake Shafer.
3) Lake Shafer
I know what you are thinking, this looks a lot like Lake Freemen. They are known as the twin lakes of Monticello for a reason.
4) Griffy Lake
You can find this beautiful body of water in Bloomington, Indiana.
5) Lake James
This is a natural lake you can find in the northern corner of the state. It's a great place to go fishing and boating. It's also known for being the fourth largest natural lake in the state of Indiana.
6) Lake Manitou
This is one of the many man-made lakes in Indiana. You can find it in Rochester, Indiana. It was created by a Potowatomi Native American tribe in the year 1767.
7) Lake Michigan
Technically, this lake is not inside of Indiana. But, it does come in contact with some of the state’s border.
8) Patoka Lake
This is the second largest natural lake in the state of Indiana. It spreads across Crawford, Dubois, and Orange County.
9) J. Edward Roush Lake
This lake is sometimes more commonly known as the Huntington Lake. You can find this beautiful lake in Huntington, Indiana. It's perfect for fishing, water sports, and boating.
Obviously, this is not a complete list of all the lakes in Indiana. The unfortunate truth is some lakes are easier to get pictures of than others. There is no denying the fact, however, that all nine of these lakes are truly beautiful. Have you ever been to any of these lakes? Making plans to go to any of them in the future? We want to know!
