With summer finally making itself known, you might be thinking about spending some time near the water. Even if you don't like to get wet, these seven beach walks will blow you away.
Grab your sunhat and some cold water before taking these impeccable nature adventures. Check them out:
1. Bloodroot Trail
Located around Salamonie Lake near the town of Largo, this little-known loop trail spans 14.2 miles and is a great place for many outdoor activities. In addition to walking around the beach and feeling the sand between your toes, you can also bike, fish, swim, and camp here.
2. Trails #2 through #11 at Turkey Run State Park
Located near the town of Marshall, this chain of interconnected paths spans about 11 miles and takes hikers past waterfalls, deep ravines, and ridges that are like something from another world. This most wonderful of beach walks lets you roam around Sugar Creek in peace and quiet.
3. Peninsula Trail
Leading to Lake Monore, this 9.8-mile trail is open year round and is accessible for most. The trail is part of the Charles C. Deam Wilderness near Bloomington. Dogs and horses are allowed on this trail.
4. Pokagen Trails 3, 6, and 9
One of the most popular parks in Indiana is Pokagon State Park where you'll find a 4.7-mile loop trail. It is located near Jamestown in the northeast corner of the state and is situated around Lake James.
5. Cowles Bog Trail
Located near Chesterton, this 4.3-mile loop trail is accessible all year long and is part of the Indiana Dunes National Lakeshore. Visitors enjoy a unique trail of sandy footpaths that lead to and go by Lake Michigan.
6. Beach Trail
Also part of the Indiana Dunes, this Lake Michigan trail is located near the town of Porter and is best used in spring through early fall. Guests take this path in 4.5 miles to the lakefront to hang out on the beach before hiking back.
7. Dune Succession and West Beach Trail
Another Indiana Dunes oasis, this is one of the most popular beach walks on Lake Michigan. The trail is 2.7 miles and is used year round for birding, hiking, and capturing amazing views like this one.
