Tucked away in the countryside of the gorgeous resort town of Galena, Thunder Bay Falls is a large waterfall you'll definitely want to see in person. Unlike most of these natural wonders in Illinois, you won't have to go on a hike to see it.
As you can see, the parking area gives you your first glimpse of Thunder Bay Falls in Galena. A gravel path that runs along a creek allows visitors to view the falls from the shore or from a scenic overlook.
The paths are even accessible by wheelchair.
No matter what angle you view it from, this Galena waterfall is the most picture-perfect waterfall in the state. This spot is popular for wedding and engagement photos, in addition to other fun or commemorative shots.
This most majestic waterfall is a cascading spillway that comes from Lake Galena, which is a 220-acre reservoir, and it is possible to see during any season. Depending on the time of year you visit, you may also enjoy seeing otters, frogs, dragonflies, butterflies, crawfish, fish, turtles, and wildflowers!
