There's no denying that the Snake River Canyon is one of the Gem State's most treasured natural attractions. Exploring it never disappoints. If you'd like to see the canyon at its best, you'll want to head to Dedication Point Overlook in Melba.
Dedication Point gives visitors the chance to truly appreciate everything the canyon has to offer. Its deep canyon walls, the rugged crags and crevices, and the majestic Snake River are all showcased from this awesome vantage point.
However, the overlook is much more than a photogenic spot to take in the view. It's also a stellar place to view the region's world-famous birds of prey. The overlook is a part of Morley Nelson Snake River Birds of Prey National Conservation Area—an area that boasts the greatest concentration of birds of prey in North America.
It's estimated that around 800 pairs of hawks, owls, eagles, and falcons nest here each spring, so you're bound to see quite a few of them while you're here. The best time to visit is considered mid-May, since that's when most young birds have hatched.
Keep your eyes peeled and you might spot a falcon diving towards the canyon floor or an eagle snatching up some food. The birds are known to get pretty rowdy, so be sure to listen for their cries!
As you find yourself standing at the canyon's rim, a whopping 400-feet above the Snake River, you can't help but be totally overwhelmed by the region's utter beauty. This is Idaho at its finest, and it's a view that every Idahoan should experience at least once.
