When you want to spend some time immersed in nature and away from the hustle of city life, there is one place in Northern Idaho you should go — Post Falls Community Forest. This incredible outdoor area sits right on the edge of Post Falls and near the Idaho and Washington state line. Whether you are looking for a beautiful hike, a gorgeous park, or even just some photo-worthy views, this is the perfect day trip destination in Idaho.
Post Falls Community Forest is no small area. It is home to 500 acres and you’ll want to explore every inch of it.
This area is a result of a collaboration between several organizations and multiple neighboring property owners in 1986. Each organization and participant played a key role in providing the land, funding, guidance, and other means to help this area become the outdoor paradise that it is today.
While there is a parking lot and entrance to the forest on West Riverview Drive in Post Falls, the most popular entrance is at Q’emiln Park. This 78.5-acre park is elaborate and quite impressive.
Here, you will find all types of outdoor activities and amenities including picnic shelters, volleyball courts, restrooms, a guarded swimming beach, boat launch, and more. This is also where you will access several trails that will take you through the forest.
This community forest is so much more than just beautiful, thick trees. It is also home to nine different trails for you to explore.
These trails vary in length with the longest being a 3.7-mile loop trail. However, many of these trails connect so you can make a trail much longer if desired.
The Post Falls Community Forest sits right alongside the gorgeous Spokane River. This means you can receive some of the most breathtaking views of the river as you explore this natural area.
In addition to just admiring the views of the Spokane River, this is a great place for kayaking or fishing. Just be aware that to access many of the best fishing locations, you must hike to these destinations as motorized vehicles are not allowed in the forest.
No matter if the outdoors is your paradise or you are just searching for something new to do, the Post Falls Community Forest is one area you will not want to miss.
