To everyone else, Idaho means a lot of things: a certain renowned tuber, a desert microcosm of rural life or, on the flip side, Boise, plain and simple. But to those who live here (and love every minute of it!) Idaho is far greater than its capital city or our world-famous potato, and has much more to offer than the beautiful steppe desert and volcanic landscape that southern Idahoans in particular have grown to know and love. We are the heart and soul of Western life, and our state's incredible wonders know no bounds.
The Owyhee Mountains -- the unique rocky crags that overflow into Oregon in Idaho's southwest corner -- are often known as the Silver City Range to Idahoans.
But while this is Idaho's most sparsely populated region today, a mere century ago, the Owyhee Mountains were prime mining real estate. Silver City is one of Idaho's most treasured and best preserved semi-ghost towns from this time period, but multiple other forgotten ghost towns dot the area, having been overshadowed by the town's booming population -- Ruby City, the former county seat, included.
This incredible drone video, shared by David Waterman on YouTube, shows off the rugged riches of Idaho's most overlooked set of mountains and canyons.
Vibrant, red, and full of epic views that that we don’t bother to hide, even in the most remote corners of our state… you just have to open your eyes to see the magic!
