It seems like there's no end to the type of beauty you'll find hiding in the Gem State. In fact, one of the state's most memorable landscapes can be found tucked away in a remote region of south-central Idaho. Known as the Little City of Rocks, exploring this vista might make you feel like you've been dropped onto another world, and it's downright awesome. See for yourself:
Hiding out between the small towns of Gooding and Fairfield, an area called Little City of Rocks is home to an otherworldly landscape that begs to be explored.
You'll find this awesome park located right along Highway 46—it's definitely hard to miss! Loaded with peculiar rock formations including towers, spires, hoodoos, and arches, you may just forget for a moment that you're in Idaho once you've found it.
It's the type of landscape that you just have to explore for yourself, and hiking is an excellent way to do so. The 5-mile-long Little City of Rocks Loop will take you right through the heart of the rocky wilderness and boasts moderate elevation gain.
Keep an eye out for the side trails that branch off to some of the park's most fascinating formations. Home of the Shoshone-Bannock, the park is known to contain ancient rock art that was carved thousands of years ago. See if you can find it!
This area is so remote, it's rare to come across another visitor who doesn't have four legs or wings. That's also why it's an excellent camping spot for those who prefer complete solitude. Primitive camping is allowed at Little City of Rocks—just be sure to pack plenty of supplies and abide by Leave No Trace principles.
Exploring the different rock formations is the best part of visiting this unique area. Taking up a prominent portion of the park's 5,875-acres, there's definitely a lot of them to explore. The wide assortment of towering rocks are especially popular among climbers and boulderers.
