A little fresh air and physical movement can do wonders for the body and the mind. Today, we want to take you on a stroll along the Snake River and through one of our favorite parks in Idaho Falls. The trail is paved, easy, and perfect for the entire family. The views are fabulous and there is plenty to do if you want to break up your stroll and simply explore. It’s a path tucked away in the city and is a fabulous destination for a day outside.
Russ Freeman Park in Idaho Falls is a beautiful city park located just a short distance from downtown. This 60-acre area is a delightful place to explore and it’s easy with the Russ Freeman Park Loop.
This loop trail is approximately 1.5 miles. It’s paved and flat, making it easily accessible for strollers and those with mobility challenges.
This loop can connect to the Idaho Falls Greenbelt if you want to extend the path and explore this area even more, which is something I've done multiple times and always recommend.
The Russ Freeman Park Loop takes you around the entire park and next to the Snake River. Just make sure to stay on the path as you walk next to the water. The Snake River is extremely dangerous.
On your stroll, you can stop and sit on the grass, a nearby bench, or a picnic table. Young children can also play on the giant playground or you can pay your respects at the War Memorial.
I also suggest giving yourself some time to play a round of disc golf. This park is home to an 18-hole course.
While any time of the day is lovely to walk this path, I particularly love summer mornings. The weather is the ideal temperature, the river is gorgeous, and the path isn’t very busy — it’s a remarkable place to start my day.
