Summer is officially gone, and winter will be here before we know it. In the Gem State, we are no stranger to long winters with freezing temperatures and heavy snowfall, but it looks like we might catch a break this year. The Farmers' Almanac winter weather forecast was recently released, and while much of the country is in for a frigid, snow-filled 2022-23 winter season, winter in Idaho is looking quite calm and dry.
The Farmers' Almanac has predicted winter weather around the United States for more than 230 years. Plus, it has an accuracy rate of 80 percent. Pretty impressive, right?
For much of the country, this winter is going to be brutal -- cold and snow-filled. The Farmers' forecast predicts plenty of snow, rain and mush — as well as some record-breaking cold temperatures! They even warn readers to brace themselves to ‘Shake, shiver and shovel!’
Except, however, for the Pacific Northwest and West. These regions will see about-normal winter precipitation and brisk temperatures, but not the bone-chilling cold much of the country will be enduring.
This means you can hit the trails and enjoy more pleasant winter hiking conditions!
If you're worried about missing the snow, there are lots of snow tubing parks and places nearby for epic winter recreation in Idaho.
And the best news? You can spend your time having fun and recreating -- not shoveling buckets and buckets of snow!
So while this year's winter might not be as exciting as years past, we're going to bundle up and make the best of it, because that's just what we do here in Idaho!
