Stretching over 50 miles through the Magic Valley region of Idaho, the Snake River Canyon is one of the state's most spectacular wonders. The canyon itself is home to some of Idaho's most iconic natural features including Shoshone Falls, Perrine Falls, and the Snake River. Exploring the canyon's epic scenery is a must for any nature lover, and you can do so by using the trail that winds right along the canyon's rim. With something extraordinary waiting around every bend, you'll come to see that there's never a dull moment on this trail.
The Snake River Canyon Rim Trail is a 12-mile-long paved path that winds right along the edge of the canyon's walls. Every step of the trail boasts a fantastic view of the canyon, plus access to some of its most beautiful natural features.
Visitors can access the western trailhead at the intersection of Washington St. N. and Federation Rd. There's also an eastern trailhead located at Shoshone Falls Park. Parking is available at both trail entrances, although there is a fee to park at the eastern end.
The trail is open to walking, hiking, and biking. With only one steep section at Shoshone Falls, the Canyon Rim Trail is wheelchair friendly and stroller friendly. Shoshone Falls Park is also ADA accessible.
The Twin Falls Visitor Center is a great place to start your adventure on the Canyon Rim Trail. Head east from the Washington St. trailhead and keep an eye out for a view of Perrine Coulee Falls. If you feel so inclined, you can even hike down and walk behind the waterfall.
From here, you'll follow the trail to the perfect view of the Perrine Memorial Bridge. Towering 500-feet above the Snake River, this iconic bridge is definitely an inspiring sight - watch out for the BASE jumpers!
After a minor gap about a mile after the bridge, the trail picks backs up in Shoshone Falls Park. Here you can enjoy the famous view of the "Niagara of the West." Spring and summer are when the waterfall's cascade is at its fullest, but it's a beauty to be seen no matter what time of year.
Loaded with fantastic photo-ops and viewpoints, the Canyon Rim Trail is truly the perfect outing for hikers of all skill levels and ages. For an adventure that gives you the most bang for your buck, look no further than this convenient trail. Check out the trail map here.
