Hawaiian beaches are truly second to none. With approximately 750 miles of stunning shoreline to explore, you will find incredible beaches in a variety of shapes, sizes, and colors dotting the coastline of these beautiful islands. And while all of Hawaii’s beaches are truly incredible, this spot might just be one of the Aloha State’s best-kept secrets for a family beach day.
Nestled along the southern coast of Kauai near the charming little town of Hanapepe, Salt Pond Park is the definition of a hidden gem.
Featuring a number of shallow, protected pools that offer spectacular snorkeling for little ones, the water is quite clear here and the natural fringing reefs keep the water relatively calm. On the east side of the beach, tide pools offer a phenomenal spot to discover Hawaiian marine life.
It is almost always sunny at Salt Pond Beach Park, and during the winter months, you might be able to witness whales frolicking off the coast. Have we mentioned the stunning sunsets?
With a large grassy area perfect for running around or enjoying a picnic, you could spend all day at Salt Pond Beach — or even all weekend! Grab a camping permit from the county and pitch a tent for a picture-perfect weekend spent in paradise.
Named for the natural wetlands used to produce salt for cooking and medicinal purposes, Salt Pond Beach Park lies adjacent to the only natural salt ponds on the island. Strictly for use by native Hawaiians, this is a fascinating destination.
Amenities include a lifeguard, restrooms, showers, and shade pavilions. Add in sprawling ocean vistas, crystal-clear water, and fine, golden sand, and you have all of the makings for a picture-perfect family beach day.
And if all that wasn’t enough, this sprawling stretch of sand features plenty of parking and is rarely crowded. Seriously, what more could you ask for?
