With countless amazing hiking trails across the beautiful Hawaiian Islands, it can be difficult to choose the best paths. Add in an overload of information about the most popular trails in Hawaii – we’re talking Diamond Head, Thurston Lava Tube, the Lanikai Pillboxes, and Kalalau Trail – it can be difficult to find more off the beaten path hikes. Luckily for us, there are countless unique trails that are much less traveled, and we can’t wait to share one of them with you today.
Tucked away off-the-beaten-path within Oahu’s ravishing Round Top Forest Reserve, the Mo’ole Valley Falls Trail leads explorers on a 3-mile adventure through a lush, verdant forest.
Gaining more than 1,100 feet, this trail is certainly a workout, but as anyone who regularly hikes in Hawaii, is less strenuous than many of the trails you’ll find throughout the Aloha State.
If you love chasing waterfalls as much as we do, you’ll want to add this trek to your Hawaii hiking bucket list. Meandering through the forest, you’ll stumble across several waterfalls on your journey - some say there are as many as eight waterfalls to spot on this trail!
But that’s not all you’ll discover here: the trail also features an old irrigation tunnel you can hike through (though there is also a path that circumvents this tunnel), as well as some stunning views of the Ko’olau Mountains and several unique trees.
Remember: with beautiful cascades come plenty of mud, so come prepared with shoes and clothes you don’t mind being covered in mud.
Less traveled than many other Hawaii hikes, this trek is one that should be reserved for those with experience navigating Hawaii's lush and sometimes overgrown forests. If you're up for the challenge, though, you'll sure reap the rewards - where else can you experience eight waterfalls in just one afternoon of hiking?
