There is perhaps no food more synonymous with the Hawaiian Islands than fresh pineapple. After all, these breathtaking islands were once the big kahuna when it came to pineapple production, and while other South American countries now harvest most of the world’s pineapple, Hawaii is still notorious for this sweet fruit. And while we love visiting the iconic Dole Plantation on Oahu, there is a pineapple farm on the island of Maui we simply can’t get enough of. Offering a variety of unforgettable tour options perfect for the whole family, a Maui Pineapple Tour tops our travel bucket list this year.
Upcountry Maui might just be one of the most gorgeous areas in all of Hawaii, and it is here that you will find the beautiful Hali’imaile farm.
On one of these unforgettable tours, you will get an up-close look at a working pineapple field and operation. Learn all about the pineapple growing cycle, cultivation techniques, and more.
Tours are offered at 9:30 a.m. and 11:45 a.m. daily and last approximately 1.5 hours.
Visit the harvesting pineapple fields, taste various stages of the pineapple, and tour the packing facility.
That’s not even the best part: each tour includes a free pineapple for you to take home and enjoy.
If you’re craving even more, consider adding on the distillery tour for an additional fee. Following your pineapple tour, you’ll visit the Hali’imaile Distilling Company to learn all about how this company uses local ingredients and a unique distilling process to create one-of-a-kind spirits.
Each tour includes a 20-minute tour of the distillery followed by a visit to their tasting room, where you will get to sample products from Pau Maui Vodka, Fid Street Gin, Mahina Premium Rum, and Paniolo Blended Whiskey.
You can even add on lunch at the award-winning Hali'imaile General Store!
A pineapple tour followed by lunch makes for one savory experience, but be prepared: it might be hard to choose between the crab pizza, tropical shrimp salad, and BBQ pork sandwich.
Tours range from $65 to $100 for adults and $55 to $90 for children and require guests to be able to walk on uneven terrain, climb stairs, and be in good physical health to handle a bumpy tour ride through the pineapple fields.
Whether you bring the whole family for the pineapple tour or enjoy a tour, tasting at the distillery, and lunch with your significant other, this fun and delicious experience is truly one you'll never forget.
Maui Pineapple Tour is located at 883 Haliimaile Rd., Makawao, HI 96768, and is open daily from 9 a.m. to 9 p.m. For more information, or to book your tour, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
