Many people who aren’t from Hawaii are surprised to learn that our beautiful islands are, in fact, hugely agricultural. From sprawling coffee and macadamia nut farms to massive cattle ranches, the Aloha State is home to countless agricultural ventures. While each of these farms is incredible in its own way, there is only one farm we know of that is home to goats, chickens, bees, and plenty of produce.
Welcome to Kauai Kunana Dairy, a truly one-of-a-kind farm where you’ll find everything from goat cheese and farm fresh eggs to local honey and organic produce. Nestled on the northern side of Kauai in Kilauea and established in 1979, this unique farm is an undiscovered gem.
You’ll find a little bit of everything at Kauai Kunana Dairy — from beehives, chicken coops, and grazing goats to organic fruit tree orchards and vegetable gardens.
The best way to experience everything this unique farm has to offer is to book a guided tour. Only offered on Wednesday mornings, your tour includes refreshments as well as fruit, honey, and cheese tastings.
Hang out and interact with the farm’s goats, and stroll through organic tropical orchards where you will see mango, avocado, lychee, and citrus trees, among others.
You might even get to see some of the farm’s other animals, including dogs, cats, and chickens.
Learn about the cheesemaking process and the farm’s sustainability practices, as well as the organic vegetable and herb garden while lounging under the shade of a mango tree.
If you can’t make it out to the farm for a tour, you might find their products and produce sold at local farmers markets, various retail stores, and even local restaurants.
Goat cheese, farm fresh eggs, and organic produce are just a few of the farm's most popular offerings you'll find at local markets.
From pesto, salsa, and guacamole to cookies, breads, and granola, Kauai Kunana specializes in crafting more than just dairy products.
You can even find non-food products for sale, like lip balm and candles made with beeswax as well as lotion, shampoo, and soap made with goat’s milk. Wow! This is one diverse farm!
The Kauai Kunana Dairy Farm is located at 4552 Kapuna Rd., Kilauea, HI 96754, and is open for tours every Wednesday. If you want to learn more, you can visit their website or follow them on Facebook. Some of their products are available on their website, but the best way to snag their fresh, local products is by visiting them at four local farmers markets: on Tuesdays from 1:30 to 4 p.m. in Kilauea, or on Saturdays in Kilauea (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.), Hanalei (9 a.m. to 12 p.m.), and Kauai Community College (9:30 a.m. to 1 p.m.).
