Many people who aren’t from Hawaii are surprised to learn that our beautiful islands are, in fact, hugely agricultural. From sprawling coffee and macadamia nut farms to massive cattle ranches, the Aloha State is home to countless agricultural ventures. And while we love the islands’ exotic fruit farms and horse farms as much as the next person, there’s no greater day trip destination than this charming and adorable goat farm on the Big Island.
Welcome to the Honomu Goat Dairy Farm. Nestled on Hawaii Island’s eastern coast near Akaka Falls State Park, this fantastic farm is perfect for a family day trip.
This underrated farm is home to the St. Isidore herd of purebred, registered Nubian goats that provide milk for both The Hula Girl Soap Co. as well as the Hula Momma Candy Co.
That’s right! You can sample local, delicious confections like goat milk caramels and fudge that are handmade in small batches using locally-sourced ingredients. Consider your sweet tooth satisfied with just just one bite.
You can even try their goat cheeses and purchase a variety of hand-crafted goat milk soaps with fantastic, Hawaiian-inspired scents and themes.
And while we love unique products, that’s not the real draw of the Honomu Dairy Farm: it’s the goats, of course!
There’s no better way to spend an afternoon than playing and frolicking with sweet baby goats that have been raised to be gentle and loving to all they meet.
So, what are you waiting for? Just look at these sweet faces waiting for a visit.
The Honomu Dairy Farm is open from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Friday through Monday. They are closed Tuesday through Thursday. For more information, visit their website or follow them on Facebook.
