The Hawaiian Islands are positively magical, especially when you venture away from the luxury resorts and large cities to discover the island’s best landscapes, views, and hidden gems. Some hidden gems, however, are more hidden than others. This particular hidden gem, which is located somewhere on Oahu’s leeward coast is a true local secret. You won’t find an exact location online, and we aren’t about to give it to you… but we will show you a few photos, give you a hint or two, and encourage you to go find the elusive sea cave most commonly referred to as "Mermaid Cave."
While many people have heard of the Mermaid Cave, few have actually been there, or even know where it is.
Rumor has it that this luminous cave is located on Oahu’s leeward coast near Nanakuli Beach.
Located between two limestone points and nestled between the Pacific Ocean and Farrington Hawaii, Nanakuli Beach Park covers approximately 40 acres and is home to a 500-foot long and 125-foot wide stretch of white and golden sand perfect for your next beach day.
The cave is said to be located to the south of the beach in a rocky area. From above, all you’ll see is a puka (open hole) in the rock...
...but once you descend into the cave, you’ll enter an entirely new world, one where mermaids splash in the turquoise water and lounge on the rocky shoreline.
There are countless words we could use to describe this magical spot: bewitching, ethereal, enchanting, stunning, dream-like, and breathtaking are just a few that come to mind.
If you dreamed of being a mermaid as a child, you will absolutely fall in love with this mesmerizing cave carved into the coast.
Be warned, though, this cave is potentially dangerous and should only be entered during periods of low tide and calm surf. The water level in a wet cave like this will change with the tides, but one large swell could fill the entire cave. You should always watch your head to make sure you don’t bump your head on the coral ceiling.
If you’re able to find this hidden cave, or have someone take you there, you are sure to create a memory that will last a lifetime.

Just a reminder that we won’t share the exact location of this stunning cave out of spite, but instead out of respect for the aina and the Hawaiian culture. Oh, and there’s definitely some concern for your safety thrown in there too. If you’re unable to find the cave for yourself, simply admire this striking images and head to your favorite beach instead.
