One of the best parts about living in Georgia is the fact that hiking is a favorite pastime for most residents. However, people will also travel from different parts of the country to hike certain trails and mountains in the state of Georgia—that's how beautiful the scenery and experiences are. There really are so many different hiking spots in the state, so how do you narrow it down to just one? Well, maybe you begin with the most scenic hike in Georgia: Amicalola Falls.
Amicalola Falls State Park sits on 829 acres, right between Ellijay and Dahlonega in Dawsonville, Georgia.
The name of the park is derived from a Cherokee language word meaning "tumbling waters."
But it isn't just the waterfall that makes this hike such an unforgettable experience.
There's so much more to this park than just the obvious, such as the 12+ miles of hiking trails ready for you to tackle.
Or the insane views you get to take in once you reach the top!
What makes this hiking experience incredible is that you have such an amalgam of beauty.
The views from the top of the mountains, the sunsets, nature, wilderness, the changing of leaves in the autumn.
It's magical to be completely surrounded by nature, and embrace it fully.
You'll feel refreshed and rejuvenated by the experience.
But, if nature, views, and overall beauty weren't enough, then you have the waterfall.
Amicalola Falls is the tallest waterfall in the southeast, towering at a majestic 729 feet.
It's nestled in the middle of the park and requires a quick jaunt to see it.
But once you get closer, the sounds of the waterfall become more and more apparent.
The trail then rises toward Amicalola Falls’ crest.
It's at this spot that you can climb the stairs, placing you right at the forefront of the Falls to appreciate the wonderment from a front-row seat.
Another fun fact that makes the Amicalola Falls such an amazing place to hike, is that just a mere 10 miles away passing under a stone arch marks the start of the Appalachian Trail Approach Trail. So if you're feeling ambitious, you can just try your hand at that 3-5 month trek.
If you still don't believe me that hiking Amicalola Falls is an unreal experience, take a look at this drone footage from Georgia Drone Services and TheB-LineBroker.com, which shows an aerial view of just how magical this place is.
