Because there are so many state parks in Georgia, some tend to fall through the cracks and not get the attention they deserve. This is especially true of some of the parks in South Georgia. Sure, our north region has all the mountains and that certainly has its appeal, but you'll find just as many beautiful landscapes in the southern portion of the state. One great place that's incredibly beautiful is Little Ocmulgee State Park in McRae-Helena, Georgia. This beautiful preserve spans 1,360 acres and has a variety of attractions. You'll find a golf course, a white sand beach, trails, campsites, an amphitheater, and more here.
The park's trails are well-marked and fairly flat, making them excellent for families and hikers who don't have much experience.
You'll see gorgeous scenery here that's so unique to this region of the state.
The Spanish moss-lined oak trees are one of my favorite sights in South Georgia.
Camping here is like sleeping in a dream. There are both tent sites and RV sites available, and you can even camp right by the 256-acre lake.
The swamps here are filled with cypress and oak trees, making for postcard-worthy landscapes.
If you ask us, Little Ocmulgee State Park is one of the best state parks in South Georgia and worthy of an adventure, whether you stay overnight or just for an afternoon.
This great overview of the park will show off how pretty the golf course is:
