Anyone who's spent any time in the Peach State knows that we have lots of natural wonders in Georgia. From our beaches to our mountains, every inch of our gorgeous state is filled with its own special kind of beauty. One particularly stunning attraction in Georgia is Lookout Mountain, nestled right along the borders with both Tennessee and Alabama. The 2,389-foot mountain is home to towns in both Georgia and Tennessee that share its name. It's a beautiful place for a hike at any time of year.
The mountain is home to a lot of history. In the 1700s, it was the site of the "Last Battle of the Cherokees" during the Nickajack Expedition, in which frontiersmen fought the Cherokee tribe.
It was also the stage for the Battle of Lookout Mountain during the Chattanooga Campaign of the Civil War.
Today, you'll find it a peaceful area that's great for a hike. There are several trails on and around the mountain, all of which provide great views that will almost make you feel like you're on another planet.
From some areas of the mountain, you can catch a glimpse of seven different states on a clear day: Tennessee, Kentucky, Virginia, South Carolina, North Carolina, Georgia, and Alabama!
Many of the trails begin in Chickamauga and Chattanooga National Military Park, a historic park that straddles the state line between Tennessee and Georgia.
You'll find a great variety of trails here, from short jaunts that are great for the whole family to 10-mile treks suitable for experienced hikers.
No matter which trail you choose to explore, you're sure to be in for a beautiful adventure.
