While Georgia has quite a few magical natural attractions throughout the state, nothing can really compare to Wormsloe Historic Site outside of Savannah. Not only does this area offer a trip back in time, but it also has a live oak avenue that you can drive down, underneath outstretched branches and dripping Spanish moss. Sound like a dream? Just wait until you hit the road.
One of Georgia’s greatest attractions is outside of Savannah and consists of a jaw-dropping avenue of live oak trees that are a breathtaking sight.
Wormsloe Historic Site, also nicknamed Georgia’s Tunnel of Trees, offers a one-of-a-kind drive down a rural road surrounded by over 400 outstretched oak trees.
The combination of twisted, leaning branches is just part of the magic, but the Spanish moss draping over the avenue also adds to the experience.
Hanging in beautiful clumps from the limbs of the trees, the 1.5-mile oak avenue makes for the perfect place for Spanish moss to thrive, draping beautifully over the road.
The Tunnel of Trees is just part of the experience at Wormsloe. Visitors are also able to see tabby ruins and gravesites, plus hike the seven miles of nature trails or sit in the picnic area to have some lunch.
Once you get through the tunnel, you’ll be able to explore a bit of the surrounding marsh area, seeing the beauty of coastal Georgia firsthand.
Then, when you’re done dipping your toes into the history of this area, you’ll drive right back under the tree tunnel on your way out.
Enjoy an ethereal experience, a dose of history, and the magic of nature when you visit the tree tunnel at Wormsloe Historic Site in Georgia.
