When the weather gets warmer in Georgia, people don’t slow down on their hiking. No, no. Instead, they find the trails that will take them to places where they can cool off along the way. Hickey Gap Trail in the Cohutta Wildlife Management Area is a coveted hike through nature with a sweet swimming hole finish.
The hike clocks in at about a mile out-and-back, so it’s an easy trail even for beginners.
Guests who hike Hickey Gap Trail will follow a path along the creek until they reach a beautiful set of waterfalls.
There are places to camp, too, so if you bring tents and set up shop for the weekend then you can easily hike out and back at your leisure.
Make sure when you’re hiking near the waterfall area you take extreme caution as rocks can be steep and slippery.
At the end of the trail near the waterfall, you’ll find ropes with hand grips to go up and down, so you can get to the pool where the falls collect.
The hike is especially nice on a warm day when you can work up a sweat and then cool off in the swimming pool below.
