Perhaps one of the most underrated areas within the state of Georgia, many visitors to The Peach State have no idea that this canyon even exists. Sure, it might not be the size of The Grand Canyon by any means, but that doesn't mean that this free natural wonder isn't a glorious sight to see. The next day it feels like spring and you have nothing to do, add this spectacular outdoor adventure to your itinerary. Let's explore Providence Canyon in Georgia.
Providence Canyon, also dubbed Georgia’s Little Grand Canyon, is a natural wonder that deserves a tremendous amount of respect and admiration.
This canyon is a true testament to how man can influence their surroundings, as this canyon was created from the erosion that was due to the poor farming practices which took place in the 1800s.
Today, guests can visit Providence Canyon and enjoy the massive gullies, some reaching depths of 150-feet.
While the park itself can be enjoyed for free, guests will still need to pay the $5 parking fee that is required when bringing in a vehicle.
Many visitors come to Providence Canyon for the epic overlook views, but there are other ways to find enjoyment within the canyon, too.
For instance, the miles upon miles of hiking trails that take you right down to the canyon floor.
Enjoy this canyon during the spring and summer months and see a bounty of colorful flowers, like the Plumleaf Azalea or the Wisteria.
You can even find a few of the backcountry campsites if you want to spend the entire weekend in the canyon.
Also make sure to check out the various shades and hues of soil that are present within the canyon—pink, red, orange, purple, and more.
